I believe that being a judge is important. The principles of a judge can be used in everyday life to help us become better people. A judge must be educated in matters of Law to be able to understand and uphold said institution. They must also have wisdom and experience to understand a
situation personally and make the best decision concerning the individual(s) or circumstances. If we are educated in many subjects we can make the best choices in our lives, as in instances in which we must make a decision concerning school, the work place, and other places. Wisdom and experience can strengthen those choices and extend the sphere of decision making, including as well the choice of those who we allow close to us. When we understand the laws of the land and of other institutions, we can be obedient to them and help to uphold them. To return to the desired attributes of the justice; the greatest and most valued quality, perhaps, which a judge may posses is his honesty and impartial, unbiased opinion. In most instances, this viewpoint is necessary to settle a dispute. The justice, after hearing the tale of the disputation, is able to discern, by the use of the law or his own faculties, the person who is correct, without showing a more biased favor to one over the other. These judicial virtues are also useful in dealing with relationships. For instance, when two family members or close friends disagree vehemently, the ability to be impartial and unbiased may solve the conflict more quickly ( save it be in unusual circumstances). Also, in communication with those one comes into contact with, remaining unbiased may save one from embarrassing prejudices which may prove false. In forbearing against such unwarranted opinions, you may gain friends and associates that you may benefit from greatly. An impartiality may, in addition, help one understand another’s perspective better. To conclude; in ancient (and latter) times, the justice would have also, perchance, helped organize and see to the aid and comfort of his people and given guidance and advice as part of his calling to be the “root” of their community. We, too, must always be ready to help one another, see to each others needs, be there to listen sincerely, and to teach one another.

Comments on Hereos of History
theres a lot of good stuff but one of the things that stuck with me was mr. durant's comment about how public opinion is almost as strong as religion in influencing people to keep laws, and when "public opinion loses force through division, fear, apathy, and the universal worship of wealth", people begin to think they are above the law(natural and governmental), or they don't care,or they're selfish and suspicious of others so they cheat to get what they want. Either way, society begins to deteriorate. I see these symptoms and results in our society today. What can we do to solve this problem?
Comments are appreciated.

ReplyDeleteMr. Groft,
ReplyDeleteAs i was listening i came up with an argument of my own of why the preamble should be kept.
Importance of the preamble and what it is: The preamble is solely an introduction, it does not assign any powers to federal government, nor does it give specific limitations on government action.
However it is an introduction and its sole purpose is an introduction of the constitutions fundamental principals and guiding principles. It is there so that we don’t forget our history, and we remember why it is there, what the country is suppose to be up, and what we are to be up holding for our own greater good. Some people may think that the preamble is not of great importance, and have no value because it doesn’t pertain to the law. This may be true. However the fact is, to really understand the preamble is to break it down and go into the history of the words, learn the sole purpose of why the founding fathers of this nation and great writing put it there. A small example of this is in the first few words, “We the people…” In this small statement the meaning behind these words are so great, here this can be interpreted that we the people of the united states must come together to stand out from all the other nations, to create the laws of the land that we feel are necessary to protect ourselves from tyrants and those who want to bring down a free nation. We govern ourselves; we tell the government what should be done, we don’t stand for being told what to do.
Too many times in the past tragedies such as the holocaust, and now the history of our very own constitution is trying to be changed to “better fit the common age”. We have let ourselves come so far away from what our founders wanted and built. The preamble shouldn’t be changed to better fit us, it is up to us to learn about the constitution so that we may better govern ourselves and be able to over throw those that try to take control, take our rights as a people, and try to put the people down saying we don’t know what is best for us. If we let others tell us what is right then we set ourselves up for a fall, for imprisonment, worst of all, loss of our freedom.
We may say how can we trust those in congress? They are trying to twist the words of the constitution to be able to pass and create bills and such that only they see fit. This is why we must be an active part in our government and be educated in what is constitutional, not what we would like to have our country be, or what we would like to see happen, but what is constitutional. We the people have the power to remove or overthrow those in office that we do not see fit, or that we see can’t uphold the constitution. But we must act before we have allowed ourselves to be imprisoned.
